Stephen Colbert's Bold Move: Interviewing Banned Guest James Talarico (2026)

Breaking News: Stephen Colbert Stands Up to CBS, Reveals Shocking Interview Ban!

In a bold move, Stephen Colbert, the charismatic host of 'The Late Show,' has taken on his own network, CBS, in a battle over freedom of speech and political expression. But here's where it gets controversial...

Colbert began his show tonight with a bang, introducing his band and announcing his guest, Jennifer Garner, before dropping a bombshell. He asked the audience, "You know who's not here tonight?" and then proceeded to reveal that Texas state representative James Talarico was supposed to be his guest, but CBS lawyers stepped in and banned the interview.

"They told us, in no uncertain terms, that Talarico couldn't be on the show. And then, to add insult to injury, they said I couldn't even mention it!" Colbert exclaimed. "But here's the thing - when your network tries to silence you, it's time to speak up."

And speak up he did! Colbert delved into the controversial 'equal time' rule, a guidance recently issued by FCC Chair Brendan Carr. This rule states that broadcasters must provide airtime to rivals of featured political candidates if requested. Traditionally, news content has been exempt, but Carr's guidance suggests otherwise, especially for late-night talk shows.

"It's a tricky situation," Colbert explained. "If there's a 'partisan motivation' behind having a political guest, we might not qualify for the 'bona fide news' exemption. In other words, if we're seen as 'fake news,' we could be in trouble."

Colbert then pointed out the irony: "It's no secret that Jimmy Kimmel and I are now at risk. We're being told to either comply or find a new platform."

And true to his word, Colbert followed Carr's advice. He posted the entire interview with James Talarico on YouTube, ensuring his audience could still access it.

So, what do you think? Is this a fair ruling, or is it a threat to free speech? Should late-night talk shows be exempt from these rules? Let's discuss in the comments!"
